Substance abuse Counselor

Salary: 50,000 – 55,000

Job Description: Summary: The primary purpose of the Substance Abuse Counselor is to provide substance abuse services – individual and group – to homeless mothers and her children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities / Core Competencies:
1. Assess and coordinate individual treatment plans for mothers.
Complete intake assessments on clients within 2 business day of entrance into the program.
Complete therapeutic treatment plans, progress notes, and complete discharge summaries.
Assist residents to establish and work toward achievable and measurable therapeutic goals and an individualized treatment plan within thirty (30) business days of entrance into the program.
Provide crisis intervention as needed. Create safety plans and perform another crisis planning as deemed appropriate.
In accordance to client needs, meet with residential clients at least once per week.
Provide support for aftercare and outpatient clients who elect to engage in services in accordance with their level of need.
Complete additional assessments as deemed appropriate.
Provide referrals to families when appropriate and/or necessary for family therapy, psychiatric services, or other mental health related services beyond services provided by Sheffield Place.
Provide transportation for clients to mental health appointments when advocacy is helpful and/or essential.
2. Complete documentation of individual, group and family activities.
Maintain up-to-date documentation for services including: individual progress notes, treatment plans and reviews, diagnosis, intake/ongoing assessments, and discharge summaries
Document referrals and other collateral contacts on behalf of clients.
Document all individual interaction with clients.
Document group activities for clients.
Complete documentation within an appropriate timeline, within 2 business days of completion.
3. Provide group leadership and facilitation.
Develop and facilitate psycho-educational groups on topics including: addiction, recovery, empowerment.
Develop and facilitate weekly, ongoing groups for residents who are recovering from various mental health challenges, trauma, and substance dependence.
Provide facilitation of specific living skills groups. This may include supporting mothers with parenting challenges, communication difficulties, or in need of conflict resolution skills.

Requirements:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and / or ability required to accomplish this employment expectation.

Certified Drug & Alcohol Counselor in Missouri ( CADC, CRADC, CRAADC).
Three years of clinical experience.
Familiarity working with clients who have experienced trauma.
Computer skills, preferably performing computerized psychological and substance abuse assessments.

Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of the community’s resources and other social service agencies.
Experience working with client who have histories of domestic violence, childhood abuse, and homelessness.
Trained in trauma informed care principals or trauma specific interventions.
Bi-lingual
