If you do not hold a CPS, CRPR, FSP or YPS credential you may go to the Missouri Peer Specialist website, https://mopeerspecialist.com/, and sign up for a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) week long basic training, which is the first step to becoming a CPS. The Missouri Peer Specialist website is “home” to registration for training events, information on training content, the online exam and other information regarding Peer Specialists in Missouri.

Description: This training will be divided into 2 sections. The first will cover understanding the role of Peer Support in the delivery of clinical services by clearly defining roles and responsibilities for team members. The second section will discuss barriers peer support may experience including stigma and resistance from clincial staff. We will also discuss role strain and role drift along with strategies for ensuring that all team members stay within their defined roles. This training will count as 3 Ethics hours..

This interactive three-hour course helps you Catch It, Check It, and Change It — turning self-criticism into self-awareness. Learn how to spot unhelpful thinking patterns, retrain your inner dialogue, and strengthen the ethical self-care and boundaries that sustain effective peer support. You’ll walk away with simple tools you can use right away to:

Telehealth and Boundaries for Peers

Description: 

This session counts as ethics training hours: It will be divided into two sections. First it will cover how the COVID 19 pandemic changed the way we work in a short period of time and the challenges this has created. It will also discuss similarities and changes to the professional's responsibilities when using telehealth. The second section will address boundaries and how the ability to maintain them has changed with the advent of telehealth and social media and its impacts on the client/peer relationship.

From Stuck to Steady: Decision-Making Tools for Everyday Recovery and Resilience

Presented by:  Michelle Bowles

Description: 

Big or small, life decisions can sometimes feel overwhelming—leaving us stuck in indecision, freeze, or avoidance. The good news? There are simple, evidence-informed tools that can help you (and those you support) move forward with clarity and confidence. In this hands-on, interactive three-hour course, you’ll learn how to use and adapt the Decisional Balance Tool, Readiness Ruler, and Change Plan to support recovery, self-awareness, and action. Through real-life examples and reflective activities, you’ll explore how to retrain your brain toward a more resourced, confident orientation to change. You’ll walk away ready to:
✅ Identify common patterns of indecision and avoidance
✅ Apply at least two structured tools to support choice-making and motivation
✅ Adapt evidence-based tools creatively for recovery contexts

Self-Care/Differences Between Stress and Burnout

Description: This session counts as ethics training hours: Defining burnout, how you may be on the road to burnout and what that looks like, the effects of burnout and how to deal with it. Burnout may be the result of unrelenting stress, but it isn't the same as too much stress. Stress, by and large, involves too much, too many pressures that demand too much of you physically and psychologically. Burnout is about not being or having enough. Being burned out means feeling empty, devoid of motivation, and beyond caring.

Supporting Peers through Grief and Loss

Presented by:  Carol Martin

Description:  Loss is a common part of recovery, but it’s often overlooked. This training would explore how to sit with grief without trying to fix it. It also teaches ways peers can care for themselves while supporting others through loss.

MCB reserves the right to cancel the program in the event of insufficient registration.  If MCB cancels the event, an exchange or a FULL refund of the fee will be made, whichever the participant prefers.  A participant may cancel a registration at any time, however,  cancellations MUST be done at least 1 week prior to the training date to receive a refund of the registration fee or an exchange.  Refunds due to a participant cancellation are subject to a $10 processing fee.  If a cancellation is made within a week of the training date, no refund will be issued.

for certified peer credentials (Certified Peer Specialist, Family Support Provider, Youth Peer Specialist, and Certified Reciprocal Peer Recovery).
No other credentialing sources will be recognized as meeting the requirements for peers working in DBH certified and contracted programs.
