General description of training:
This training is based on the evidence-basedMindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course. It will begin with thefundamentals of mindfulness, and thoroughly teach applications of mindfulnessfor reducing depression, anxiety, and other unwanted mood states. Participants will engage in experientialexercises each week that progress more deeply into the ways that mindfulnesshelps alleviate symptoms through awareness and acceptance. Participants will learn how to recognizethoughts, emotions, and physical sensations that lead to depression andanxiety, and how aversion to these reinforces the disorders. By experiencing the changes that mindfulnesscan make in yourself, you will then be able to teach it to your clients. Each week you will receive an audio file of adifferent meditation, as well as several handouts and articles. Participants will be a mixture of counselorsand other healthcare professionals, as well as others from the general publicwho are wanting help managing their depression, anxiety, or stress. While gaining these valuable therapeutic tools, you will also be practicing self-care, which is so vital for those in thehelping fields.
