General Description: This seminar is an in-person didactic seminar,led by Jeremy Shuman at the Center for Mindfulness and CBT, that teaches thefoundational skills in the assessment and treatment of Obsessive-CompulsiveDisorder (OCD). The primary conceptual model taught will be the appraisal modelof OCD, and the primary treatment modality taught will be Exposure and ResponsePrevention (ERP). The goal of this course is to help clinicians with a basic familiarity of CBTand behavioral learning principles to become proficient in these skills toallow them to practice with ongoing supervision and consultation. This coursewill teach you the necessary techniques, but previous attendees who haveexcelled in this work have independently pursued reading, podcasts, webinars,and peer consultation at the seminar’s conclusion. The format of the course is a didactic lecture. This is a super condensedversion of an 18-hour training that includes small group discussion, roleplay,and assigned homework. There is a lot of information to cover to start seeingclients using ERP, and so the pace of the seminar will be quite fast. Breaksare limited, as is audience participation. Questions are always welcome. Pleaselet me know if you are interested in the longer version. All forms of communication, and all disabilities are welcome to participate inthe way that is best for their goals for the seminar. This may involve eatingduring lecture, moving around the room, leaving the room and returning whenready etc. I do not expect everyone to get every minute of content during thesesix hours and anything you miss can be covered in follow up consultation ifrequested. Please send me an email ahead of time if you would like any personalaccommodations to the format as I have presented it here. Bring lunch, snacks, and a drinks to each session. You will eat lunch duringlecture. Bathrooms are ADA compliant and gender neutral. A water cooler isavailable in the break room as well. Lastly, case consultation is an invaluable part of learning any new modality.Providing psychotherapy (following all laws and regulations regardinglicensure) to a client with OCD during the course of the seminar is highlyrecommended.
