Presenter(s)&Credential(s):Laura Chackes, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist and Owner of The Center forMindfulness & CBT, has been in practice as a clinical psychologist for over 13 years, doingprimarily CBT with individuals, families, and groups with depression, anxiety,and related disorders. Dr. Chackesco-developed the MBCT program at Clayton Behavioral in 2013, and has beenteaching Mindfulness & MBCT courses consistently since then.
Andy Conrad, MA, PLPC, NCC,Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor at The Center for Mindfulness& CBT. Any has been practicing mindfulness personally for several years,and regularly incorporates it into his individual therapy sessions with hisclients. Andy has co-lead the MBCT course with Dr. Chackes for the past year.
General description of training:
Thistraining is based on the evidence-based Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy(MBCT) course. It will begin with the fundamentals of mindfulness, andthoroughly teach applications of mindfulness for reducing depression, anxiety,and other unwanted mood states. Participants will engage in experiential exercises each week thatprogress more deeply into the ways that mindfulness helps alleviate symptomsthrough awareness and acceptance. Participants will learn how to recognize thoughts, emotions, andphysical sensations that lead to depression and anxiety, and how aversion to thesereinforces the disorders. By experiencingthe changes that mindfulness can make in yourself, you will then be able toteach it to your clients. Each week youwill receive an audio file of a different meditation, as well as severalhandouts and articles. Participants willall be mental health professionals such as counselors, social workers,psychologists, and psychiatrists. Whilegaining these valuable therapeutic tools, you will also be practicingself-care, which is so vital for those in the helping fields.
